First Meal: Chef Michael Solomonov of Zahav

We’re asking top Philly food folk where they’d take a visitor for their first meal in Philadelphia. This week, we have chef Michael Solomonov, who runs modern Israeli Zahav in Society Hill and kosher-chic Citron and Rose on the Main Line. (With partner Steve Cook, he also owns the two Federal Donuts and two Percy Street Barbecue locations. Whew.)

Zagat: You have friend visiting from Israel who's never been to Philadelphia before. Where do you take them for their first meal in Philly, and what do you suggest they try there?

Michael Solomonov: I would send anyone to Vernick. It’s a super good restaurant, the real deal, with attentive service that is also super friendly. Greg is doing honest cooking at Vernick - there’s no pretension and it is truly delicious. I’d tell my visitors to order the toast with beef tartar and horseradish and any of the mocktails. They are really good.
