The last two weeks have seen a dining boom in Culver City, with new pizza, sandwiches and vegan eats now available. Wildcraft Sourdough Pizza opened this week in that narrow space between Starbucks and Meet French Bistro. The room is much more interesting, with colorful funky murals on the walls, a long bar, multiple beers (including a few from Hermosa's Abigaile, since is the same owners) and boutique wines on tap, and wood-fired pies and more on the menu. The pizza, as you may have guessed from the name, is made from a slow-rising sourdough which renders the pizza more puffy and chewy when charred in the wood-burning oven. But there's a lot more on the menu, including paninis stuffed with roast pork and kale, big fresh salads and little fried olive-sausage bites. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner daily (9725 Culver Blvd.; 310-815-8100).
With plans to open last year, looks like LeAnne Schwartz and her LA Spice Catering crew have finally debuted the new Culver City cafe, which is now serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. According to Eater, the nearly 25-year-old company took over the former Abbot's Pizza on and transformed it into a bright and cheery dining room and kitchen. Some dishes you might see on the LA Spice Cafe menu include bourbon-battered brioche, house-made granola and various omelettes for breakfast, chicken tonkatsu or curried chicken salad sandwiches for lunch, and daily changing braises and stews for dinner. Hours are Tues.-Sat., 8 AM-8 PM, and Sun.-Mon., 8 AM-4 PM (4357 Sepulveda Blvd.; 424-500-2125).
LYFE Kitchen, so named for Love Your Food Everyday, has finally debuted in the former Gyenari/Moko space. Chefs Art Smith, who you you've seen as Oprah's former personal chef and on Top Chef Masters, and vegetarian-vegan expert Tal Ronnen, have replicated the menu that they serve in Palo Alto where nothing is more than 600 calories (but priced under around $15). Sodium and calorie counts are listed alongside dishes like Art's Unfried Chicken and Tal's Ancient Grain Bowl, and there are vegan and gluten-free, too. It's all served in a stylish, loungey cafe space, but it's more fast-casual, so you order at the counter and sit wherever. This is the second LYFE location, but since it's backed by two former McDonald's executives (oh, the irony), expect more franchises to roll out across the country. The restaurant is open now but has a grand debut on March 8 (9540 Washington Blvd.; 310-507-7955).
