Closing Time: Three Bars Shutter Around Six Corners

An epidemic of restaurant closures is spreading through the west side. The outbreak appears to have originated near the intersection commonly known as “Six Corners.” There is no known cure, and the only treatment is finding somewhere else to drink in the neighborhood.

Late last year, Bin Wine CafĂ© posted a sign stating the wine bar was closed for renovations. This plan fell through, and as of mid-January they announced their closure via Facebook with this message, “Thanks to everyone for their support. Unfortunately the Bin Wine Cafe is closed for good. We thank you all for the great times and memories, and lack of memories, we shared.”

Down the street, Salud served their last shot of tequila on February 2. Stating slow business in recent months, according to Eater, the owners have plans to open a new concept on Milwaukee Avenue called MAK or Modern Asian Kitchen.

It is last call at another popular watering hole. Cans announced on their Facebook page, “Sad to say but it is true. Cans will be closing. Saturday, February 16 will be the last night. Rents are all going up in the 'hood and we have lost our lease. So stop by and see us before doors close and let's remember all the good times over the past 10 years! (anyone know a good spot for a fun neighborhood bar?)” Rumor has it that NIKE will move into the space on Damen Avenue.
