Cafe 28 Closed, Owner Hopes to Reopen

According to a message on their Facebook Page, Café 28, the neighborhood Cuban-Mexican restaurant closed after serving their last Sunday brunch. "With much regret after 17 years we will be closing our doors this weekend after brunch on Sunday, Feb. (24)," it read. "We sincerely thank you for all your love and support, and for being part of the Cafe 28 family."

The Chicago Tribune reports that owner Rick Miranda hopes to reopen after financial troubles subside. Citing construction issues, festival and heat waves for the closure, the restaurant first forfeited their liquor license before making the decision to shut the doors for good.
