Beachwood Cafe Celebrates One Year With Free Food and Drinks


It was exactly a year ago that Patti Peck (former chef/owner of Edendale Grill and Millie's Cafe) took over the Village Coffee Shop, the hidden Beachwood Canyon gem that fed the hillside set, and turned it into Beachwood Cafe. The place got a complete overhaul: a new look designed by Barbara Bestor, which garnered Bestor Architecture an AIA Restaurant Design Award last year, a new menu featuring seasonal dishes and things like shiso and enoki-stuffed dover sole with glass noodles and tamarind-ginger broth; and a beer and wine license. The place is bright and cheery, hip without being hipster, which is exactly why Peck wants to give away the entire menu for free, so even those who don't live near Hollywoodland will venture up to try it.

Well, free with one caveat. To celebrate the new look and lease on life, Peck and chef-partner Minh Phan are throwing a grand opening-anniversary shindig on Friday (March 1) with free passed apps - one-bite versions of every dish on the menu. At least you can try everything! There will also be pickled pear and salty plum Champagne cocktails and house-made orange tarragon soda and basil-mint mocktails to go along with it. After, a $30 tasting menu featuring new spring dishes will be available. The open house is from 6-8 PM, with dinner served until 10 PM.
