Be a Beer Samaritan: Pliny The Younger Benefit at Monk's Kettle

As you're plotting your SF Beer Week itineraries (geek, aficionado or foodie), consider blocking out February 13th on your calendar for a special beer benefit at Monk's Kettle's showcasing Pliny The Younger. (Sayre Piotrkowski, the beer director of St. Vincent, tipped us off to this one.) As beer geeks know, Russian River Brewing’s PTY is the most sought-after beer on the West Coast and potentially the most coveted IPA style beer anywhere in the world. The fervor around it has gotten to a cultish, obscene point. At last year’s Beer Week, it sold out in minutes.

Rather than take advantage of the voracious consumer demand, Monk's Kettle is harnessing it for a good cause. Following the lead of Monk's Cafe in Philly, Monk's Kettle will donate all the proceeds from their one kegs worth of "The Younger" to La Cocina. At noon sharp, the Kettle will tap the keg and start selling glasses until it kicks. If you are hell-bent on fighting the crowds to get your taste of PTY this year, this is the time and place to do it. (Monk's Kettle, 3141 16th St; 415-865-9523)
