Arts District Explosion: Stumptown Coffee, Zinc Cafe Coming to DTLA
It's more like the coffee explosion, continued. You've seen Stumptown Coffee brewing all over town right now - Sycamore Kitchen (we love the cold brew), Alfred Coffee & Kitchen, the Market on Holly and Spring For Coffee - so it's no surprise that LA is slurping it up. Rumors that the Portland-based outfit plans to open a roaster and retail space in the Arts District downtown are confirmed. According to Food GPS, Tyler Stonebreaker and Michael Smith, the guys behind design-architecture-real estate firm Creative Space, the lease has been signed. Stonebreaker and Smith created a "pathway" to get Handsome Coffee open in the Arts District, too, which also has a nice big Urth Caffe. No neighborhood can have too much caffeine.
The firm is responsible for bringing Zinc Cafe & Market to a space on Mateo Street near 5th, as well. The Orange County cafe is known for its prepared salads, grab-and-go pastries and more, which is something this part of Downtown doesn't really have. Boon for the loft dwellers, that's for sure.
