The semifinalists for the 2013 James Beard Awards (aka the Oscars of the food world) have been announced, and you can check out the entire rundown here. In the Best New Restaurant category, SF's State Bird Provisions, Philly's Vernick Food & Drink and NYC's Empellon Cocina all made the list. For Rising Star Chef, Michael Toscano of NYC's Perla, 30 Under 30 Thomas McNaughton of SF's Flour+Water and Danny Bowien of Mission Chinese Food were among the chefs nominated. The awards will go down on May 6, 2013 at NYC's Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center. Stay tuned for more Beard updates as they arise.
