Thursday Beer at Percy Street, Devil’s Den, the P.O.P.E. and JG Domestic

As announcements of beer-centric events scheduled for January 24 piled up in our inbox, we couldn’t figure out what was special about next Thursday. Then we discovered it’s National Beer Can Day, and the world made sense again.

As the best place for craft cans in the whole country, Percy Street Barbecue is repping the holiday hard. On January 24, every single can in the South Street restaurant’s roster - over 100 of them - will be offered at half price. Since it’s also Restaurant Week, pair your suds with a prix fixe: three courses will run you just $20, or get two of everything for $35 (215-625-8510).

That date also happens to be National Peanut Butter Day, and you can get the best of both at Devil’s Den in South Philly. Terrapin Brewing is based in the peanut capital of Athens, Georgia, and reps will bring plenty of nuts to accompany $1 off drafts of Hopsecutioner and other Terrapin brews. Pair them with special PB dishes from chef Paul Trowbridge starting at 7 PM (215-339-0855).

At the Pub On Passyunk East, it’s draft beer that will be celebrated at a special “Viking Party” for the debut of Skull Splitter in the U.S. The 8.5% ale has been brewed in Scotland for 20 years, and to mark its arrival stateside, the P.O.P.E. is holding an Instagram contest. Stop in after 7 PM to get a pour from the tap and take a photo with a costumed Viking - if your #skullsplitter tagged post is the most outrageous, you’ll win a $50 gift certificate (215-755-5125).

If you’re looking for a more substantial feast, there are still a few seats remaining for the four-course Great Lakes beer dinner at JG Domestic. Starting at 7 PM, a family-style meal featuring BBQ-inspired fare will be served will four different ales and lagers from the Cleveland brewery. Tickets are $65 and are available by telephone (215-222-2363).
