Until last night, we had embarrassingly never eaten at NoHo Cajun standby
Great Jones Cafe - one of those rare NYC eateries that has managed to stay in business for the last 30 years. The smallish divey spot is ridiculously endearing thanks to its no-frills atmosphere and service (and top notch jukebox), and serves up a variety of Cajun/Creole staples like blackened catfish, jambalaya and of course, red gumbo. We sampled the latter among other things last night - a mix of veggies, shrimp and andouille that's the perfect balance of spicy, sweet and savory flavors. Great Jones Cafe is located at 54 Great Jones Street.
