| Flynn McGarry, teen rockstar chef |
What child labor laws? We always knew chefs have been skewing younger and younger these days, but this is ridiculous (and kind of awesome). Teen chef about town
Flynn McGarry, who we've seen hanging around
Ray's and Stark Bar chefs Kris Morningstar and Josh Graves, cooked at
Playa, and who interned with Grand Achatz and Eleven Madison Park's Daniel Humm, Tweeted that he already
sold out his $160 dinner pop-up at
BierBeisl this month. That's $200 a head for a teen-driven, albeit haute, menu, proving that age is relative when it comes to someone serving someone beef with wild mushrooms, celery root, black vinegar and coffee. And yes, he has an agent - this
is LA after all. But he's already old for teen chef superstardom: now there's a tween cooking down in the South Bay.
Jack Witherspoon, a 12-year-old cancer survivor and author of
Twist It Up: More Than 60 Delicious Recipes from an Inspiring Young Chef. According to
Eater, he's cooking at
Chez Melange in Redondo Beach on February 24. The $45 menu is much more for-kids-by kids, with Caesar lettuce wraps, eggplant Parm, and pot roast with mac and cheese. Proceeds go to the Beckstrand Cancer Foundation. Make reservations by calling 310-540-1222. So what's next: A 10-year-old pastry wunderkind? We're sure she's out there.
