last week, but we’ve now got official word that Shake Shack is expanding in the Philadelphia area. Not only will University City get an outpost of the Danny Meyer burger stand, but a third location is planned, this one out in King of Prussia. Summer is the target date for the West Philly spot, which will open in the mixed residential-retail building going up at 3200 Chestnut.
KOP will have to wait until fall for its ShackBurgers and cheese fries, but when it opens, the suburban spot will be a stand-alone building that will be Shake Shack’s second solar-powered restaurant - a solar-panel-covered roof that will provide around 10% of its energy. What locally-inspired concretes will Union Square Hospitality chefs dream up for these new branches? We’ll let you know as soon as we find out.
