Beard Foundation Will Give Lifetime Achievement Award to Cecilia Chiang

Today the James Beard Foundation announced that they will honor chef and restaurateur Cecilia Chiang with a lifetime achievement award at the upcoming 2013 ceremony. Chiang is often credited with doing for Chinese food what Julia Child did for French fare - she opened the Mandarin in San Francisco, introducing the city to fare from Northern China that was previously not widely available. She taught Mandarin cooking to stars like Alice Waters and James Beard himself, and her life was chronicled in two memoirs. Her son Philip was the co-founder of the PF Chang's restaurant chain.
