Inside Coya - London's Hottest New Peruvian Restaurant

Coya - the new Mayfair Peruvian from restaurateur Arjan Waney (Zuma, La Petite Maison, The Arts Club) is the hot spot London foodies are all talking about. We took a look inside to find out what all the fuss is about. 


The Space: The basement restaurant is housed in a grand Georgian building. The artfully distressed, Inca influenced interior includes antique Peruvian furniture, as well as traditional painted murals and colourful textures. Upstairs is a private member's bar with live music, a bar and outdoor terrace.

The Chef: Head chef Sanjay Dwivedi has cooked for The Rolling Stones on their world tour, has appeared as a culinary master on TV's Iron Chef and worked at Indian restaurant Zaika. In preparation for his latest job at Coya he spent a year travelling around South America and worked at Astrid Y Gaston - a top restaurant in Lima.

The Food: It's not cheap but the quality of the food and creativity of the dishes is excellent and well worth the price. From ceviche to tiraditos, anticuchos - small skewers of grilled meat and fish -  and sizzling steaks made on the robata grill, everything is designed to be shared. Standout dishes include sea bream ceviche with amarillo chilli and coriander, yellow tail tiradito topped with green chilli, coriander and lime or a Chilean sea bass in rice with lime and chilli.
