Hot Threesomes Two Ways: Pie and Chowder

Good things come in threes, and two new deals prove it. Starting tomorrow, Holly Ricciardi is running a Saturday-Sunday special at Magpie, featuring a flight of three miniature pies based around a common theme or ingredient. Stop into the South Street West bakeshop to pick up a trio of tarts for $10 (you can also get them for $4 each). This weekend’s theme is “meringue,” so your dime will score three pies in that style, including the extremely intriguing sweet avocado cream with grapefruit meringue.

You can also enjoy a savory triplet, when Doc Magrogan’s Oyster House celebrates that cold-weather standby, chowder. Both the University City and West Chester locations will run specials on three types of the soup - New England clam chowder, Maryland crab and corn chowder, and butternut fisherman’s chowder - available in bowl ($5), cup ($4) or shot size ($1). Even better, when you order a flight of four-ounce soup shots, you’ll get an extra one for free. The deal runs through the end of February.
