Hillside Supper Club Opens Brick-and-Mortar in Bernal Heights

The former pop-up Bernal Supper Club went legit over the weekend when the young duo chefs Tony Ferrari and Jonathan Sutton (who’s collective kitchen chops include Acquerello, Michael Mina and Jean-George Vongerichten’s J&G Steakhouse) officially took over the CafĂ© Cozzolino space on Berna Heights and turned it into their permanent home, Hillside Supper Club, where they are turning out a small slate of moderately priced California comfort food - meatballs, pizza Margherita, handmade cavatelli with lamb sugo and sides of focaccia - along with seasonal chalkboard specials and a four-course tasting menu (and yes, you can add a sous vide egg or bacon to any dish).

They’ve kept the bones of the old Victorian storefront that boasts large arched windows overlooking Precita Park but updated the interior with Mason jar light fixtures, a communal table and a zinc-topped bar stocked with sustainable and biodynamic wines, along with two craft beers on tap. For now, they’re open for dinner only every night but Tuesday, but plan to open for weekend brunch in mid-February and eventually for lunch.
