Bird of Smithfield Coming From Former Ivy Chef Alan Bird

The man who made the shepherd's pie at The Ivy world famous is opening his own restaurant later this year. Former executive chef Alan Bird has announced plans to open Bird of Smithfield opposite Smithfield Market. The five-story restaurant, bar and lounge will serve British food with a twist, which also includes 'those countries the British have colonised previously.'

"I'm really, really excited about this," Bird told Big Hospitality in an interview. "I've spent the best part of 20 years working at The Ivy and I loved it, but every chef dreams of having their own place, so to have somewhere with your name above the door, you know it's real then."
