Forge: Oakland's Newest Waterfront Hangout Opens

It may be Italian Food Week here at Zagat, but over in Jack London Square, Forge, the revitalized waterfront complex’s newest pizza-and-artisan-beer purveyor is more Midwestern than Neapolitan. Billed as an American pizzeria, the restaurant menu is anchored around over different eight kinds of thin-crust wood-fired pies baked in an Mugnaini oven imported from Italy, but also proffers elevated Americana comfort food - think fried pickles, potato skins, wedge salad, chicken pot pie and baked-to-order chocolate-chip cookies -  all made in-house, seasonal and locally sourced (with the exception of cheese curds from a Wisconsin).

Unlike in Europe, where snacking in between meals is not encouraged, the 100-seat foot industrial-modern converted warehouse space, outfitted with fabricated steel light fixtures, burnt plywood floors, a high community table, flat-screen TVs and a spacious heated patio replete with fire pits, will be open continuously from lunch ‘til closing, making it the perfect spot to stop in to grab a quick bite, catch the game or sip a late-night Negroni under the stars. Also serving weekend brunch.

Forge: opening today, 66 Franklin St, Oakland; 510-268-3200
