Destination Hot Dogs: 10 Franks Worth Traveling For

Dat Dog in New Orleans, LA; Photo by Linnea Covington
Let's face it, America is doggone crazy when it comes to hot dogs. According to study done in 2011 by the National Hot Dog & Sausage Council, we spent $1.7 billion on hot dogs in a year, with Los Angeles residents eating the most of any city - sausage fest! But just because you can get them everywhere doesn’t mean all hot dogs are created equal. They can come stuffed with crawfish, beef, pork or chicken, or topped with cheese, wrapped in bacon or served on any number of rolls. From dirty-water dogs to haute kimchi franks, these links are worth taking a trek for.

  2. Although you could only list 10 - hard to believe you could leave Tony Packo's and Nathans off the list

  3. Hot Doug's does have classic Chicago style dogs, but they also have rotating specials that include a foie gras dog and duck fat fries. "Nothing fancy" is not an accurate description.

  5. The HOT DOG itself should be celebrated, not some place that throws tons on top on it-- New Haven,CT - home of America's best pizza (Pepe's) and America's original hamburger restaurant (Louis Lunch) - is also home to America's best hotdog-Hummel Bros. Meats - served at many hot dog restaurants throughout Connecticut ---so great to live near the three best foods America has to offer!

  6. Where is Nathan's? Its omission puts the credibility of your entire list in doubt.
