Deschutes on the Loose: West Coast Beer Crash Lands in the Midwest

What is better than spotting the wiener mobile? Grabbing a beer from a mobile tavern in the shape of a massive keg. “Woody” is operated by Descutes brewery, and will be rolling into Chicago to celebrate the Oregon brewery offering its beers in Illinois. They are saturating the market over the next few weeks with tastings and tap takeovers. There are over 50 events happening around Chicago, but we picked a few food-focused ones to whet your appetite.

Burgers, Bourbon and Beer
Owen & Engine serves a $15 beer and a burger special every Tuesday. This week they welcome special guests from the brewery at 8:30 PM. They are brining the Black Butte Porter with them. (773-235-2930).

Food and Beer Tasting
On Wednesday, a four-course dinner at Stout Barrel House includes French onion soup made with Red Chair NWPA broth and Slagel pork chop with Mirror Pond Pale Ale. Tickets cost $35. (312-475-1390).


Beer and Burgers
If you missed Tuesday's beer and a burger special, a similar pairing will be offered on Thursday from 5 to 8 PM at Paramount Room. (312-829-6300).

Beer and Bites
Four of the Deschutes craft brews will be on tap on Thursday from 7 to 10 PM at Frontier. Each will be paired with specialty bites by chef Brian Jupiter. (773-772-4322).

Small Plates and Beer Pairing
Four small plates and four 4-ounce beer pours will be served on Friday from 6 to 10 PM at Small Bar. The pairing menu costs $26. (773-772-2727).
