Both Matyson and Le Virtu Host Stateside’s George Sabatino

Winter soup from Joe Cicala at Le Virtu
Chef George Sabatino is at the top of his game these days, and his East Passyunk dining room Stateside has the crush of crowds to prove it. This month there are two chances to enjoy Sabatino’s cooking outside of his home base, as he joins colleagues for two collaboration dinners.

Matyson will be the setting for a January 17 dinner with longtime friend chef Ben Puchowitz. Greg Moore of Moore Brothers winery will be in the house for the 7 PM prix fixe, which will feature eight courses thoughtfully paired with Moore varietals. As of this writing, there were just under a dozen seats left, so call now to save your spot ($150; 215-564-2925).

That weekend, on January 20, Sabatino will join South Philadelphia Tap Room’s Scott Schroeder and chef Joe Cicala at Le Virtù in South Philly for an outdoor winter festival and feast. Dubbed “La Cottora,” the event will take place in the outdoor courtyard around several wood-burning fires from 5-9 PM. Look for Schroeder’s spicy tripe sandwich, Sabatino’s grilled lamb shank and Cicala’s signature Abruzzese pasta and beans, cooked outside in a fire-heated cauldron. Vin brulé and other cocktails will also be served, and profits will be donated to Project H.O.M.E. Call for reservations or buy tickets online here ($70; 215-271-5626).
