10 Super Super Bowl Take-Out Options in SF

We already told you about the best sports bars in the city to watch the Super Bowl but if you’re the type that’s looking to avoid the spontaneous bonfires, DUIs and other mayhem that hanging out with the bros in public may lead to, we suggest you stay home and just order in some really great food instead. No, we’re not Dominos or even Mission Chinese Food. Here’s a roundup of the 10 great take-out offerings for the Game Day.

Boxing Room: Enjoy Louisiana fixings that are even better than what the fans in New Orleans are getting courtesy of Justin Simoneaux’s game-day menu in Hayes Valley. Gumbo, jambalaya, fried chicken, po’ boys, red beans and rice and rice; call 415-430-6590 for orders.

Wise Sons Delicatessen: These guys aren’t afraid to shake up the menu. For game day, they’ll be hawking pastrami potato skins by the dozen ($16.49) foot-long pastrami, corned beef and turkey challah subs ($49.49) with pickles (ok, we’re not sure of their technically foot-long but said to serve 5) from their Mission brick-and-mortar. Check out the menu online and pre-order by calling 415-787-3354).

Town Hall: Pick up an eight-piece fried chicken bucket, rack of St. Louis ribs, spicy wings, smoked Andouille jambalaya and other New Orleans fixings at this SoMa spot and gloat over the fact that the Saints aren’t in the finals. Download the order form here or call 415-908-3700.

Salumeria: Upgrade from usual chili and weenies. This old world deli in the Mission will be hawking BBQ pork slider, salumi and cheese platters, along with confit chicken wings by the dozen to go. See detail online and call 471-2998 to order in advance.

Sweet Jo’s: If you’re leaning towards the traditional chili and biscuits, why not go with the best? Joanna Karlingsky will be offering platters of her famous Meetinghouse biscuits, badass beef chili, Buffalo-style chicken wings, pigs in a blanket, deviled eggs and more, available for pick up at Rebel on Market Street on Saturday or Sunday. See the menu and order online here.

Wing Wings: We’re not exactly sure why wings are the thing for Super Bowl but where better to go for them than at this aptly named Lower Haight spot that will be hawking 25-, 50- and 100-wing packs, along with a choice of sides, pulled pork sandwich fixings and biscuits to go.  Don’t wing, order in advance by calling 415- 834-5001.

Luella: For revelers on the north end of the city, pre-order the game-day feedbag at this Russian Hill haunt which includes pork-bacon chili, fried chicken, ribs, bone-marrow burgers, cornbread, slaw and more ($22 for bag, minimum order is for two). Call 415-674-4343 to order; pick up on Friday or Saturday only.

Maverick: For that requisite bucket of fried chicken, consider looking beyond KFC and straight to this Mission spot that will be offering its signature bird to go on Super Bowl Sunday. (Usually it’s only available of Mondays). Pre-orders for buckets ($25 each which includes four pieces, biscuits, gravy and veggies) up until Sunday by calling 415-863-3061.

Presidio Social Club: Look, BeyoncĂ© just gonna be lip synching anyway so why not dart out during half time and pick up a party-size order of Dungeness crab mac’n cheese ($24) at this Presidio spot. Call 415-885-1888 to place your order.

Bi-Rite Market: Ok, this is not a restaurant but who cares if you’re getting it to go. The famed Mission gourmet retailer will be stocking its deli counter with all the necessary staples—fried chicken, seven-layer dips, spicy Buffalo wings, plus –get this, growlers of Magnolia beer, all to go. You just need to place your order by Friday at 3 PM; see the special catering menu online and call 415-241-9760 ext 1).
