Sold-Out Starbucks Metal Gift Cards Selling for $5,000 on eBay

Last week, the Seattle-based coffee giant debuted the Starbucks Metal Card, which comes loaded with $400 and costs $50 to make - resulting in a $450 price tag. That's a lot of Frappuccinos. Thanks to 'bucks-obsessed millions, the limited edition cards sold out like hotcakes (only 5,000 were made), and now of course today comes word that they are being sold on eBay for up to $5,000, reports Consumerist. The cards were sold on the luxury goods website Gilt and offer special perks like free refills on drip coffee and tea. Got $5K burning a hole in your pocket? Put it to use here.

  1. Making the claim that the Starbucks gift card is "being sold on eBay for upwards of $5000" is a shameless and lazy move to get people to click on your post. It is convenient for you that you link to the only one being LISTED for $5k, however none are actually selling for that much. There are at least three others that actually have active bids going for about $700... but I guess the more accurate "$450 Starbucks Gift Cards Selling For $700" is not a title compelling enough to get clicks and ad revenue.

  2. Also, to be fair, even though 'The Consumerist' is using the same tactic, they don't actually claim that the cards are selling for that much - only that they are being listed with "a starting bid" of 480-5000$.

  3. Steve's farts smell so amazing.
