Hoppy Holidays: 4 Beer Events You Won’t Want to Miss

Attention beer lovers: it’s beer-thirty. At least it feels that way with a slew of brew-centric happenings you’ll want to take note of.

Hoppy Birthday Monk’s Kettle
Monk’s Kettle is celebrating its five year anniversary today (Wednesday) by throwing itself a big ole birthday party with special beer and food pairings. The beer-centric Mission haunt will be offering special suds from each year they’ve been open with special food pairings crafted by chef Adam Dulye. (Beer geeks can take a peek of the offerings here.) The pairings will be available all day long (starting at noon) and the brews and food can also be purchased separately. A few blocks away, Monk’s Kettle’s sister restaurant Abbot’s Cellar will be celebrating the anniversary with a five-course tasting paired to these same beers of the years. (For more info or to make reservations, go to Monk’s Kettle website or call 415-865-9523).

Anchor Steam Holiday Ale Dinner in Monterey
Also happening tonight down in Monterey, the Cannery Row Brewing Company is hosting Anchor Steam’s own Burch Smith for a four-course beer paired dinner to celebrate the release of the SF-based brewing company’s 2012 Holiday Ale. Executive chef Mark Ayers' reception and sit-down affair will showcase wintery comfort foods such a duck confit with mushroom risotto to match with the current and previous winter ales. ($48 per person including beer pairings, to reserve and see the complete menu, check out the restaurant’s website or call 831-643-2722).

National Lager Week in Carneros
Up in Sonoma, the Carneros Bistro is celebrating National Lager Week (now through Friday) with a special beer-pairing menu. Chef Andrew Wilson’s three-course craft lager-inspired menu features wood-roasted mussels paired with Moonlight Reality Czech Pils, bourbon-brined pork chop paired with Sudwerk Marzen, and warm green apple crisp paired with Session Fest. (Dinners are $65 per person including a 12-ounce beer pairing with each course, $57 per person with a six-ounce beer pairing; seatings 5:30 – 10 PM, call 707-931-2042 for reservations).
