Bar Bambino Closing at the End of the Year

As we reflect back on the year’s hottest restaurant openings, it’s inevitable that such lists will be followed by a list of another kind, closures. We're sure to hear about more restaurant casualties after the holiday season but one local favorite has already announced that it will be bowing out at the end of the year.

Owner Christopher Losa will be shutting his six-year old “baby” Bar Bambino after his final New Year’s Eve dinner. The Mission-based enoteca was a unsung favorite for many in the ‘hood and the kitchen’s shift towards showcasing the more Eastern European side of Italian cuisine led a mini-food trend in the city.

Chef Lizzie Binder has already left the restaurant since landing a spot on the cast of Top Chef: Seattle, but her team is still in place and plans to serve up its last set of suppers during the next two weeks. In addition, the restaurant will be open and serving a greatest hits a la carte menu on New Year’s Eve. You can read Losa’s farewell letter here and make reservations to enjoy the Bar Bambino experience one last time here.

In other news, Commonwealth will be closing for a two-week hiatus from December 19 - 26, to freshen up the place and give the staff of the 2 ½ year old restaurant break. Commonwealth will reopen for business on December 27.
