Bay Area Christmas Dining Guide: 8 Options Outside the City

Coming into San Francisco for holiday shopping, ice skating and a matinee of Beach Blanket Babylon can be a ton of fun, but if you live outside city limits and are looking for a place to dine out with the family on Christmas Eve or Day a bit closer to home, consider these fine options. Manresa: Down in Los Gatos, David Kinch will be offering a five-course meal including a cheese and dessert course on Christmas Eve (starts at 5:30 PM, $175 per person with additional $125 for wine pairings, 408-354-4330).

Navio at the Ritz-Carlton Half Moon Bay: Nobody puts on a better Christmas spread with all the holiday decor and fixings than this coast-side resort that will be hosting several Yuletide meals. The flagship restaurant will be serving at a four-course menu on the 24th (4-9:30 PM, $122 per person with an à la carte option) and a five-course prix fixe (exclusively) in the dining room all day long on Christmas Day - $128 per person, 1-9:30 PM, 650-712-7040. 

Restaurant 1833: If your plans send you to Monterey, don't miss the four-course Christmas Eve holiday prix fixe at this gorgeous restaurant set in a storied old home, which will feature Dungeness crab salad, scallops with braised endive and pan-roasted duck ($55 per person, 6-9 PM, 831-643-1833).

Bocanova: At this Jack London Square spot in Oakland, chef-owner Rick Hackett and his crew will be offering a Christmas Eve Crab Feast featuring Dungeness crab prepared several ways, from the traditional crab Louis to crab tamale, along with seasonal Pan-Latin sides (starts at 5 PM, $68 per person, 510-444-1233).

Copita: Over at Joanne Weir’s Sausalito cantina, the crew will be turning out special Christmas Eve menu dishes à la Mexico, such as pozole ($18) and roasted lamb prepared on the rotisserie served Pachuca Hidalgo-style, a rich adobo marinated with various salsas, and traditional garnishes ($22), (11:30 AM-10 PM, 415-331-7400).

Murray Circle: Convenient for Marinites as well as city folk, this Sausalito spot overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge will be presenting a Christmas Eve and Day breakfast buffet lunch plus a four-course menu served all day on Christmas Day ($80 per person, $35 for kid-friendly portions, plus the regular kids’ menu will be available, 12-8 PM for Christmas Eve, for breakfast buffet details or reservations call 415-339-4750).

Tavern at Lark Creek: On Christmas Eve, chef Aaron Wright will offer a four-course menu at this converted Victorian home in Larkspur, which includes regional specialties such as crispy Pacific oysters. ($49 per person, 5:30-9 PM, 415-924-7766).

Bistro Jeanty: Up in Wine Country, Monsieur Philippe Jeanty’s classic French bistro in Yountville will be open on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and will be serving his regular menu with additional holiday-inspired additions (2-8:30 PM, 707-944-0103).
