3 Places to Try Gourmet Donuts

The opening of Electric Donuts on Portobello Road has sparked a new obsession for sophisticated takes on our favourite freshly baked, glazed treats. We predict the new gourmet version of this sugary snack will be big news in 2013 with a booze-filled donut hopefully hitting the stores this time next year! Here are five places to find gourmet donuts in London now.

Electric Donuts
Find the new donut-and-coffee stand in the foyer of the Electric Cinema every Wednesday to Sunday. The daily changing selection of unusual flavours includes maple bourbon, bergamot orange, ginger chew, Mexican chocolate and berry trifle. Get there early, before they sell out.

The healthy Mediterranean menu at Yotam Ottolenghi's Soho restaurant means you'll always have space for the fresh churros (a long, deep-fried Spanish-style donut). The classic dessert served with sugar and a hot-chocolate dipping sauce is given an interesting twist with the addition of fennel seeds.

The Harwood Arms
The award-winning Fulham pub is right on trend with their popular brown-sugar donuts. These deep-fried mini-balls are served with sea buckthorn curd and sour cream, which sounds bizarre but perfectly counterbalances all the sugar.
