Weekend Planner: Beer, Chili and a Vegan Food Fight

All The Beers
The who's who of craft brews take over Riverfront Theater all weekend with the third annual Beer Hoptacular. The three day even is sure to oversaturate guests with samples of craft beers as well as a home-brewing challenge. Tickets for each session cost $45.

Chili Cook-off
Warm Up and Bear Down at the 4th annual Wicker Park chili cook-off at Moonshine during Sunday's game. Sixteen contestants will be fighting for a grand prize of $500. The winner is determined by the people's vote. For $15 ($10 with a coast donation) guests can sample the meat, vegetarian, beans and no bean chilies (773-862-8686).

Vegan Chef Throwdown
We would say there will be blood, but the chef's battling at Beauty Bar on Sunday all specialize in vegan cuisine. So, there will be tofu? Eight chefs, including ones from Boiler Room and Dimo's Pizza, will battle for a trip to White Pines Lodge in Hayward, Wisconsin. Tasting tickets cost $35 and non-tasting tickets cost $10 (773-971-3895).

Food Trivia
How familiar are you with the varieties of asparagus, how about Japanese culinary techniques or the history of Fernet? Show off your foodie stuff during trivia night on Monday at Sono Wood Fired Pizzeria. Hosts Heather Sperling of Tasting Table and Chandra Rham of Plate will host the night that benefits Red Cross Hurricane Aid. Tickets cost $30 (312-255-1122).
