Tour Thai Town With "Mayor" Jet Tila

He'll leave the suit and tie at home
Although he oversees a very Americana menu at The Charleston, chef Jet Tila is still Thai Town's favorite son, having grown up working at his family's Bangkok Market, one of the first Thai markets in the country, and various restaurants. If you want to know where to eat in the East Hollywood neighborhood, he's definitely the man to ask, and now you can - starting in December, he's hosting regular monthly Thai Town walking tours with Melting Pot Food Tours.

Even Anthony Bourdain got a first-hand view of Tila's insider knowledge of the neighborhood, when the two went traipsing through places like Yai and Ruen Pair on the third season of No Reservations. On the Sunday tours, you'll check out some of Tila's favorite restaurants and sample dishes like papaya salad, jade noodles and banan coconut fritters; visit a Thai grocery store; and get recipes, stories and other miscellany from the honorary Mayor of Thai Town. The group is limited to 15 people so you can get a more personalized experience, and reservations are a must.

The first tour takes place on Sunday, December 2, with the next ones scheduled for January 6 and February 3, 2013. The all-inclusive tickets are $99 per person and be purchased here or by calling 424-247-9666. We don't need to say this, but this would make a great *hint hint* gift.

  1. Dear Lesley,

Thanks so much for capturing the spirit of the experience. Jet really wants to do this to show off the Thai Town community which still remains a bit hidden in plain sight.
