spotlight Paul Shoemaker's fabulous burger at his Malibu bistro, Savory, we get word just now that the restaurant was forced to close today. According to the release, Shoemaker and his team were in a long dispute with the Point Dume Village landlord Zan Marquis, who was also part owner of the restaurant, and despite its many accolades, including being voted as a Top Newcomer in the 2012 Los Angeles Restaurants survey, it was easier to throw in the proverbial kitchen towel than continue to fight.
Per the release, Shoemaker thanks the city of Malibu and the dining community who regularly frequent Savory, but says, "This is a sad day and one of the hardest decisions I have had to make. I love Malibu and everyone here. We will never forget this amazing experience. Eat. Drink. Be Local."
While we don't have specifics as of now, last we heard Shoemaker was working on a burger-only joint called Juicy Lucy, set to open at the new Figat7th complex in Downtown LA. We'll keep you posted.
