Only 25 Shopping Days 'til Hanukkah: Order Your Wise Sons Latkes Now!

If it’s not too soon to be stringing Christmas lights, it’s definitely not to soon to be talking about Hanukkah latkes. Particularly because the lunar-dependent Jewish festival of lights comes early this year. The candle-lighting, driedal-spinning fun starts on December 8th this year and if you wait that long to order your potato latkes, braised brisket and sufganiyot (say what?) from Wise Sons Jewish Delicatessen, you’ll be up to your arm pits in frying oil making them yourselves.

San Francisco finally has a good Jewish deli of their own to boast of and owners Evan Bloom and Leo Beckerman have just posted their 2012 Hanukkah Catering menu. In addition to said latkes, accompanied by housemade apple sauce and Straus Dairy sour cream, the traditional holiday eats include brisket by the pound, roasted root vegetables, a market salad, but what you definitely don’t want to miss our its selection of Bubbe-approved house-made baked goods—rugelach, babka, mandel bread, along with sufganiyot, strawberry jam-filled donuts specially made from local purveyor Marla Bakery (sold by the half dozen for $15). The Hanukkah catering items will be available for pickup from 12/7 to 12/18 but customers are encouraged to get their orders in early because Wise Sons always sells out of it its holiday larder.

In other holiday news, Wise Sons will be closed Thursday 21-23 but they are acting as a pickup venue for Three Babes Bakeshop apple pie orders. Orders for apple pies should be placed online from Three Babes Bakeshop for pickup at the deli on Thanksgiving eve. (3150 24th St.; 415-787-3354)

  1. The above article on hanukkah celebration is really good. To celebrate hanukkah one most important thing is eating delicious food and playing dreidels with children.
