Is The Spotted Pig Coming to London?

Bloomberg restaurant critic Richard Vines has reported that British TV chef, Gordon Ramsay has applied for the UK trademark on the name of New York restaurant The Spotted Pig. The gastropub in the West Village of Manhattan is owned by chefs Mario Batali and April Bloomfield as well as musicians Jay-Z and Bono.

While The Spotted Pig founders have expressed interest in opening a London restaurant it seems they weren't quick enough off the mark. “We didn’t have a trademark for England,” Batali said in an interview last year. “You need a specific one for England. We had one for Italy, we have one for Spain, we have one in Thailand. I don’t know why we didn’t have one in London.”

Meanwhile an unidentified spokesman for Ramsay was quoted by the Sunday Mail in Scotland as saying the company regularly seeks trademarks and there were no current plans beyond that.

Ramsay and Batali have openly fought in the past with Ramsay continually referring to Batali as 'Fanta Pants' in the press, and Batali banning Ramsay from booking a table at his restaurants. The plot thickens.
