Gastropubmania: Fatty's Public House, Spoonful Open This Week

First gastropubs were a thing, and now every neighborhood corner has one. Now Southern-fried gastropubs are gaining momentum - until someone overfries them. From the guys behind Brick + Mortar in Santa Monica, and Smoke, the new steakhouse on Melrose, comes Fatty's Public House, which takes over West Hollywood's former Oak Fire Pizzeria & Pub space, and will have craft cocktails (here's a taste), beers and snacks like calve's tongue terrine and short rib pizza. The doors should swing open, softly, by Thursday, with a fuller menu available by next week (829 N. La Cienega; 310-854-0756).

And over near Universal Studios, Spoonful officially debuts in the former Henry's Hat location tomorrow. Thrillist gives a holler about the menu, which includes fried chicken and collard greens, pulled pork sliders, and lots of whiskey (more than 40 different kinds), craft beers and TVs for sports watchin' (3413 Cahuenga Blvd.; 323-512-4800).
