First Look: La Vilette, Now Open In the Former 10 Downing Space

The strip near Downing Street on Sixth Avenue in the West Village is alive with new openings. El Toro Blanco attracted the likes of Michael White and John Mayer the other night and slightly north of that new Mexican haunt is La Villette, which opened right before Sandy hit, closed down due to the storm, and is now open again. The French brasserie occupies the 10 Downing space. While they kept the outdoor clock that hangs on the corner the rest of the decor has been bistro-fied. There's white tiles lining the walls, red banquettes and framed vintage posters hanging around the space.

The menu will surely please Francophiles, think dishes like a tomato puff pastry tart with Ementhal cheese or foie gras terrine. There's chocolate mousse and crème brulee for dessert, and drinkers can pound back some vino at the pewter bar. The joint's now open, and we're thinking a good plan is drinks and apps at El Toro with dinner and dessert here (10 Downing St.)
