Sate your sweet tooth and help a great cause on Saturday at Getting our Just Desserts, a benefit supporting Careers Through Culinary Arts Program (C-CAP). Taste sugary delights from Spago's Sherry Yard and Cake Mix's Duff Goldman along with Ricardo Zarate, Jet Tila, Josiah Citrin and Roy Choi among others. There will be more than 30 pastry chefs, bakeries and chocolatiers at tasting stations and doing cooking demos and classes. Tickets are $50 ($70 at the door); $100 for VIP ($120 at the door, which gets you in an hour early. 2-5 PM at the International Culinary School at the Art Institute of California (2900 31st St.)
Mo-Chica launches a new Peruvian-inspired brunch on Sunday, and it comes with a complimentary bellini (one per person). The menu features dishes like eggs Benedict with rocoto hollandaise, asparagus and bacon or smoked salmon; pan con pollo, or shredded chicken on grilled ciabatta with aji amarillo aioli; and lomo al jugo, beef filet with tomato, onion and ginger-garlic sauce over toast. SHOREbar and Sam Choy's Pineapple Express are banding together on Sunday (Nov. 18) for a Hurricane Sandy benefit in Santa Monica. Sip on special cocktails from 3 PM on, and nibble on Hawaiian bites like ahi tuna poke, 12-hour braised Kalua pork, wagyu beef sandwiches and more from 6-9 PM. Proceeds will benefit those in need on the East Coast. To help raise more funds, both the truck and bar will have off-menu items available through November 25 (112 W. Channel Rd.; 310-429-1851).
