Cocktails for Sandy Relief in the Bay Area

Here’s a fun and easy way to help be a part of the Hurricane Sandy relief effort – drink! This coming Sunday afternoon, November 18, from 4 – 8 PM, members of the San Francisco bar and spirits community are hosting SF Hearts NY, a Coney Island-themed fundraiser to help raise money to repair the bars in the Tri State Area affected by the hurricane and to help pay the costs of the volunteer efforts of the workers at the United States Bartenders Guild of New York. The party will go down at the subterranean SoMa bar Local Edition (691 Mission St) and will feature over 14 locally lauded bartenders representing Smuggler’s Cove, Bourbon & Branch, Bon Vivants, Beretta, Tradition, Rye, 15 Romolo, Jasper’s Corner Tap, Jupiter Olympus and other hotshot brand ambassadors such as Brooke Arthur and Trevor Easter. Chefs from local restaurants and pop-ups including Hogs & Rocks, Tango & Stache, E & O and Maverick will also be donating their time and food to sell to help raise additional funds. Tickets for the party are $25 and available for purchase online.

In other drinking-related Sandy relief news, throughout the month of November, Russ Moore of Oakland's Camino will be donating proceeds from one nightly specialty cocktail to the Brooklyn Recovery Fund. This week’s Empire State-inspired cocktail is the New York Sour (made with rye, lemon, red wine, gum syrup and orange bitters.) For more info on the upcoming drink of the week (slated to change next Wednesday), check out the website.

  1. Very nice idea-- hopefully it will catch on all around the country and send lots of cash where it is needed right now.
