Closing Time: Melt, Custom House Tavern and More

Things went downhill pretty quickly for the South Loop spot Alain’s. The restaurant that opened with Chicago Bears’ Israel Idonije chef Alain Njike (Charlie Trotter's, NoMI) only a few months ago recently started sporting large red “for rent” signs. The space was served an eviction notice in September, and it appears that situation escalated, forcing the restaurant to close for good.

Custom House Tavern, located in the Blake Hotel, served their last meal on Halloween. The team that recently opened Maison and Eggy’s said the decision to close was due to the changing demographic of the neighborhood (Printer’s Row) and the desire to focus their attentions of the two newer concepts.

The sandwich shop Melt in Bucktown suddenly ceased service over the weekend. The space is set to be reconcepted to a Korean/Japanese restaurant called Enhakkore that is scheduled to open in January. Other notable closings include the Lincoln Park Zapatista location and Café Bolero in Logan Square.
