6 Spirited Beaujolais Nouveau Celebrations

At midnight on November 14, Francophiles will celebrate the uncorking of this year’s Beaujolais Nouveau. Spirited festivities take place at Gallic strongholds around town when the young wine that cannot be served until the third Thursday in November starts flowing. Here are some of the top spots to check out.
BastilleFrom November 15-17, this Old Town French bastion will offer a special two-course menu featuring steak frites, mussels or coq au vin ($29) to accompany bottles of the new wine.

Bistrot du Coin: Come midnight on November 14, it’s party time at this Dupont Circle French bistro, where the new wine flows into the wee hours of November 15.

Bistrot Lepic: Sample the new vintage in this Upper Georgetowner’s intimate wine bar, starting at 6 PM on November 15.

Central: Make merry at this high-powered Penn Quarter French American on November 15. It will be cooking up Gallic specials and offering 15% off on all wines from the Burgundy region. Live music, wine games and tastings are in the mix. Reserve at 202-626-0015.

French Embassy: On November 16, the annual blockbuster wine harvest celebration "Beaujolais and Beyond" will feature light fare from leading DC restaurants such as Zengo and Zentan, as well as French breads, cheeses, pâtés and pastries. Guests will be treated to free-flowing Beaujolais Nouveau,courtesy of Georges Duboeuf, in addition to a selection of wines from France, Italy, Spain and California. Festivities will include a DJ and dancing, a blind tasting contest, a trivia quiz a silent auction and a raffle for round-trip tickets to Paris from Air France (4101 Reservoir Rd., NW; 8-11 PM; $55; VIP 7-8 PM, $95; get tickets here).

Slate: Glover Park's new wine bar will be featuring the Beuajolais on November 15 and will offer cheese pairings.
