5 Knockoff Hostess Treats in LA

The news about Hostess closing up shop has Twinkies, Ding Dongs and Ho Ho's fans in a tizzy. But we're fortunate to have a few local bakeries that found inspiration from the childhood snack treats, like Cake Monkey, whose Cakewiches and El Rollos are some of the best knockoffs we've tasted in LA. They're so good, even Hostess took note and made owners Elizabeth Belkind and Lisa Olin change the original Yo-Hos name. "I have to admit, I was kind of flattered that they even knew who we were," says Olin. "They didn't tell me I couldn't make the product, I just had to come up with a new name that didn't sound like their product." If they were smart, they would've asked for the Cake Monkey recipe.

Don't fret if you can't find Hostess on the shelves soon - here are five delicious odes to our favorite cakey snack treats that are available anytime. Did we miss your favorite? Let us know in the comments!
