There’s a reason the gastropub trend caught on big and hasn’t really stopped - the combination of good food and great beer in a relaxed setting is hard to beat. Though some restaurants shy away from the moniker (see, for example, the website for West Philly’s
Local 44: “No, we're not a gastropub. We kind of hate that word.”), others embrace it, such as newly opened

These places all sound great but I'll stick to my favorite Gastropub (whether they want that moniker or not, I don't know) -- Prohibition! Official name of course is The Prohibition Taproom @ 501 North 13th Street, Phila, PA 19123. If you haven't been -- GO! Amazing food, awesome beer menu, mystery kegs tapped every Wednesday and BYOV -- for Vinyl -- on Sunday nights. What's not to love!

DeleteAll these places are great - but there is no way on earth I would consider Barbuzzo a gastropub, by any means. It's amazing, but I just don't see how you could classify it as such. Also, a little surprised Monks didn't make the list...

ReplyDeleteWho rates these places with numbers for food, service and decor...but there is no scale? How are you suppose to know what a 27 is work when there idea what that means by nothing to compare it with? Hello? I mean people voted...so how does one compare the numbers against the votes? Something is missing and it's not a few brain cells....it's a brain!
ReplyDeleteSo what about the Good Dog bar and Dandelion? They are both in Rittenhouse and have amazing food. Dandelion fits Pub more than most as it is built as an Irish Pub and has excellent English/Irish food. the Good Dog bar has the most amazing cuisine!
