Cupcakes - they're not going away. Despite a well-documented
backlash from food bloggers, pastry chefs and, well, everyday citizens, cupcakes have actually gotten even more popular in the last few years, if you scope them out on
Google Trends. Whether or not you think macarons, donuts or waffles will soon become "the next cupcake," the fact remains that nothing - and we mean nothing - will take the place of cupcakes in the hearts of dessert-loving Americans. But that does mean that bakers have had to go to some pretty interesting extremes to keep the public interested.
