West Village Restaurants Barrio 47, La Bonbonierre Serving by Candelight

Those New Yorkers who were here during the city-wide blackout in 2003 will remember that plenty of restaurants whipped out the candles and keep their doors open. Reports coming out of the West Village find that most eateries are closed, but a few scrappy joints are in cash-only mode, cooking up their wares in the dark before they spoil. A reader sent us the photo from Barrio 47 - yep, the bar's clearly open. Another reader said that Le Bonbonierre is also operating sans electricity, with lines down the block. Everyone is in good spirits though, as Governor Cuomo said in a press conference this afternoon, "New Yorkers truly are at their best, when things are at their toughest." Truth.
