Weekend Planner: Warm Up With Chili, Wine and Beer

Chili Throwdown
Moonshine will transform their backyard into the biggest tailgating party outside Soldier Field for 4th Annual "Warm Up and Bear Down Chili Cook-Off." Tonight, 16 pro and amateur cooks will compete for the Gilded Ladle trophy and a bowl full of cash. The winning chili will also be featured on Moonshine's permanent menu. Tickets cost $10 with warm coat donation and $15 with no coat (773-862-8686).

Wine Dinner
For those that prefer wine to beer, The Florentine will host Heritage Wine Cellars and Tommasi Wines tonight. A five courses created by executive chef Chris Macchia will be paired with the fine Italians wine and will include dishes such as house-cured salmon with heirloom apples and a gorgonzola crostata with poached figs and gelato, Tickets cost $65 (312-660-8866).

Oyster Fest
Shaw’s Crab House’s annual oyster fest concludes with the “Royster with the Oyster” party. Last year 4,000 oyster lovers  attended, and this year should be equally successful. The party takes place from 3-10 PM and in the parking lot on Rush Street between Hubbard and Illinois (one block east of Shaw’s). Tickets cost $25 and can be purchased here.

Beer Dinner
We are very familiar with the local beer scene, but cannot say the same about the Italian beer scene. Go to Bar Umbriago on Saturday for four-course dinner prepared by chef Michael Ponzio paired with Italian beers. Chow down on some braised leg of lamb with chestnut ravioli and apples that is washed down with a strong golden ale, Toccadibò. Tickets cost $75 (312-494-1200).
