Weekend Planner: Chefs in Costumes and Freaky Food

Coffee Throwdown
To celebrate Kickapoo coffee coming to Chicago, The Wormhole is hosting a latte art throwdown at 7:30 PM with “nontraditional throwdown rules” – we have no idea what this means, and we doubt they do either, but show up tonight to find out (773-661-2468).

Chicago Cooking Expo
If a trip to Alrington Park is doable this weekend, there will be food trucks, cooking demos, a bizarre eating competition and gourmet goodies waiting at the Chicago Cooking Expo. Tickets cost $20 in advance and $25 at the door (877-508-2488).

Green City Market Harvest Ball
Costumes, food, beer, auctions, barrels of hay, whiskey, chefs, bartenders – the second annual Harvest Ball at Ravenswood Event Center really does have it all, all that's missing is you. Tickets cost $75 and are still available for Sunday’s party.

Chef Ming Tsai at Takashi
Chef Ming Tsai knows how to cook, owns a few restaurants, has won an Emmy and now he has a new cookbook. Meet this multi-talented man at Slurping Turtle on Monday during a signing of his Simply Ming in your Kitchen from 3 to 5 PM ($25), or join him for dinner at Takashi at 5:30 PM ($78; 312-464-0466/773-772-6170).
