Upper Crust Files for Bankruptcy

It’s been a tough year for local pizza chain Upper Crust Pizzeria, known for its gourmet pizzas and bicycle delivery. Last week, the chain filed for bankruptcy protection under Chapter 11, according to reports by the Boston Business Journal and The Boston Globe.
These past years have been marked by legal owner disputes and labor law citations, from illegal immigrant hires to execs owing workers hundreds of thousands of dollars in overtime pay, as well as owing back taxes, according the Globe.

On September 30, the Waltham store closed, and calls are being forwarded to the Watertown branch. The Watertown and Lexington branches are splitting delivery orders that would otherwise go to Waltham. Earlier this year, two North Shore branches closed.

Upper Crust opened its first location on Beacon Hill in 2001.
