The Best Thing We Drank Last Night: Dandy Riot at The Library at Public

Last night was all about a trip to the theater, but we weren't seeing any play. We were checking out The Library at Public, a new cocktail bar and restaurant in the recently remodeled Public Theater building on Lafayette Street. Tucked away on the second floor, the room was packed by 7:30 PM and it didn't clear out at curtain time, suggesting that the folks supping there weren't just scarfing a pre-show bite. The menu was designed by Andrew Carmellini of The Dutch and Locanda Verde, but on this trip we were more focused on the libations (it's Mixology Week after all).

The Dandy Riot was easily our favorite - a boozy mix of Old Overholt Rye, bitters, Aperol and Scotch it contained layers of flavors, including a hint of smokiness from that last ingredient (the menu listed Talisker). Garnished with a brandied cherry the drink offers an interesting take on the Manhattan. Sure, there are some amazing performances going on in the spaces below, but this haunt is currently the hot ticket in the complex (425 Lafayette St.).
