Pig & Khao opened on the Lower East Side last week, and this weekend she was in the house expediting orders behind the chefs counter (and looking generally cool in a white hat). The mid-sized restaurant offers a hodge podge of bold Asian flavors on its affordable menu, Cohen has partnered with the Fatty Crew, and fans of that groups restaurants will find a lot of dishes to like here (and a lot of canned beer to go with said dishes).
Our favorite was the pork jowl and watermelon salad - it was topped with some Sichuan peppercorns for spice and crispy pig skins for some crunch. The watermelon went supremely well with the tender pork that was laid on the bottom of the plate, and the whole mix was even better with our fiery PBR-based michelada in the mix. While it's far too early to predict a hit, we know we'll be heading back - we only got to try about half the menu, and we didn't event get a glass from the keg in the backyard (68 Clinton St.).
