For the Gallic-minded, Dominique’s Kitchen debuted in Redondo Beach this week, bringing classic, rustic French cuisine to the SoBay. French-born chef Dominique Theval, who made his way through various hotel kitchens in Europe to opening exec chef of Morels Bistro and then to Taix (LA's oldest French restaurant), is cooking up things like escargot in butter sauce, chicken pate with baby pickles, and lamb chops with creamy polenta for the neighborhood. It's now open six nights a week for dinner (522 Pacific Coast Highway; 424-247-9054).
In hermosa Beach, Abigaile, the brewpub with a classier New American twist, celebrates National Fig Week with a new figgy dish every day from Nov. 1-7. Dishes like roasted chicken and fig tagine, and a fig and goat cheese melt go nicely with the regular menu of fried slab bacon in a steamed bun, braised lamb belly poutine, and soft serve ice cream drizzled with bacon caramel sauce. Check out the full Fig Week menu below.
