Sausalito's 60s Rock Legend The Trident Reopens

As we predicted back in May, there’s nothing like a little America’s Cup race to jumpstart the Sausalito waterfront. Last week we told you about private Corinthian Yacht Club scooping up veteran chef George Morrone to freshen up their kitchen. Now another former yacht club, the old 60s and 70s rock legend The Trident (formerly owned by The Kingston Trio), which later devolved into the touristy Horizons, has re-opened and aims to bring back that lovin’ feeling with another former Aqua chef manning the stoves to cook for the rest of us plebeians.

Backed by the owners of San Francisco’s Buena Vista Cafe (no stranger to the tourist crowd), the resurrected dockside restaurant, with sweeping views of the Golden Gate and the city’s skyline, is back in business, sporting the same undulating wooden décor and infamous ceiling art, but with an up-to-date (albeit pricey) seasonal seafood menu that runs the gamut from updated classics such as fried calamari and cioppino to day boat scallops with chanterelles and a 2-pound whole lobster with sugar pie pumpkin risotto overseen by James Montejano. (Check out all the menus online.)

Now that it’s gotten its sea legs, The Trident is open continuously daily from lunch until 9 PM, with the addition of weekend brunch. And that patio overlooking San Francisco Bay? It’s open pretty much all of the time, with heaters and lots of Irish Coffee drinks available to stave of the fog.
