Pizza on Wheels: The Urban Oven Officially Hits the Streets

Earlier this summer we told you about Scott Tremonti slinging some pretty authentic wood-fired margherita pies from The Urban Oven pizza truck, but he was yet to really hit the road. After some permitting issues and many private events later, Grub Street lets us know the truck officially launches this week. Why this is a good thing: Tremonti was inspired by Phoenix's famed Pizzeria Bianco (he even worked with Chris Bianco at LA Loves Alex's Lemonade last month), so his pies are the real deal, even from an oven on four wheels.

Some flavors you might see this week include the classic margherita, but also The Dragon (pomodoro sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni, shiitake mushrooms, jalapenos), one with smoked mozzarella, applewood bacon and brussels sprouts, and another with canellini beans, fennel sausage and fontina cheese. And while you wait for that pie, be sure to draw on the truck - it's painted in chalkboard paint, awaiting your creative genius. Pizza and roving art - we like. Catch the truck today in front of LACMA from 11 AM to 2 PM, and follow on Facebook or Twitter for its regular whereabouts.

  1. Had the brussel sprouts pizza today at LACMA - that is some good shizzz! This guy needs to open a restaurant so I can get these goods anytime. $10 for a pizza with those kind of toppings is a bargain. Easily better than Mozza. Will be making the Urban Oven a habit.
